I have been a member of this list for a few years now. I have always been amazed at the wealth of knowledge that members freely share. I have never gotten the impression that anyone here has a swollen head of ego. Several times I have posted a question and have always been answered in a friendly, non-condesending manner. I agree with Ken D. that sometimes we can respond to some of the "rants" with a constructive alternative. Hopefully someday I will have the answer for someone in need. My hats off to all on this list and especially Loran for all he does.
May we all end up with the machines of our dreams. Ken B. In-Reply-To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <000101c62acc$e32b5280$2f01a...@ronlherault> I thought Bid Pay went belly up? There is no commercial arm of Phono L equivalent to the 78-C adjunct to the 78 list but we are all interested in hearing about machines and related items that are for sale, I think. Loran used to organize e-flea markets once in a while but has not had one in a long time. I'm a new member of PhonoL and posted a hello and was rapidly welcomed by Loran and Ken and Brenda Brekke. I collect and do a lot of restoration work. I was looking for a place to meet other knowledgeable people and share information. I have to admit that I was rather turned off by the rants on Ebay, the "other list", etc. I was also turned off by the apparent willingness of some to bid up their own auctions. This list seems to be a "good old boy" list because so many on it don't use their own names, yet they all know who each other are. It makes it very difficult for someone new to feel like they belong. Maybe I'm looking for a perfect world that doesn't exist. I don't see too many ways to sell my machines outside Ebay other than Todd Augsburg's site or Len Bilton's. Maybe the members of this list could come up with some vehicle for selling and posting wants. It would sure be helpful if you knew the interests of other individuals. Maybe the list could find some way to let individuals list their areas of interest. These may all be old territory that has been discussed on the list before. If so, I apologize. I would sure like to find a way to contribute in a positive manner to the list. John Pisano made a couple good points on Ebay auctions, re. use credit card and Bidpay, but they seemed to go unnoticed. The discussion all went to bad shippers and bad packing. That is a given reality. How about someone posting constructive good packing tips? There has been some limited mention of some. Anyway, I hope PhonoL can be a real asset to both new and old users.
