I'd love to see a complete list of PT's too, Rick. Kurt Nauck has auctioned
off the only 'complete' sets of Vogues and now Victor picture discs
(including a fabulous copy of the Whiteman PT) over the last couple of
auctions... I wonder if he has a complete set of PT's as well (or knows
someone who does).

I agree with Peter that maybe I should cut RCA some slack since it was the
Depression and everything... But they released a 12" one-sided PT with 4
minutes of music on it at about half the volume and twice the noise a 12" 78
would've had. I'm just not ready to concede that their hearts were really
in the project at all.

Nauck's assistant Brian told me he likes to use a "28 x 9 truncated
elliptical" that he got from Expert Stylus for PT's (not sure what the
numbers mean, maybe .28mil x .9mil?), but he also uses it for post-'39 78's
and some other things... I'm betting someone somewhere has to know the
exact (intended) dimensions of the orange-shank chromium-tipped needle RCA
intended for use with PT's. Aside from that I like to be prepared to play
any record with minimum groove wear and best sound, I'm really curious what
these old 33rpm's could really sound like in their best light. Did RCA
really think they were onto something, or was it just more marketing crap to
push sales through the Depression (like many feel the picture discs were)?

I noticed no mention of LP or PT's in the ad Peter found on eBay, though I
did see a number of multi-78 album sets, some of which I have... I wonder
if the LP experiment had bitten the dust just before the ad was composed?

thanks for the input,
Robert

I'd like to see it.
