Maroon Gem?? LOL
The II is nice because it is completely unrestored and yet is very
restorable. The horn, I believe, is marginal. The Victrola 130 was sold only
once, and the finish, while dirty, is very smooth, so I think some cleaning
will reveal a very nice original finish. I think it may have lived with a
smoker. The interior is as nice as you can find, good clean goldplate, and that
little drawer for used needles is sooo cute...
This is such a hard decision!! I do have concern about the Vic II horn
though, that it will never be very nice because although the colors are there
and not flaking like paint (it is colored lacquer), the texture of the petals
is very rough with surface rust, I believe. The tin under the lacuer is
polished very highly, and the lacquer could be removed to expose the bright
silver metal...or would that be blasphemy??? Is a damaged lacquer finish better
than none at all???

Sounds like the horn on the Vic II is marginal. I'd
buy the big beautiful VV-XVII if it's in nice
unrestored condition. Those upper end Victrolas sold
in small numbers and it adds interest to a collection.
The Vic II sold in huge numbers (for horn models) and
it would have to be in really nice condition to be a
keeper. The machines are quite different but equal in
value so buy the one in the best condition. If they
both need help buy my maroon Gem! Jer

On the topic of hauling...if you need a bicycle moved,
I'd recommend Brice.
