Hi, all------ I hate to be cynical, but it really shouldn't surprise anyone
that these kind of shenanigans occur on eBay -- it's just chock full of fraud
from the littlest "I don't have a crank, so I don't know if it works" to the
biggest shill bidding and false sales. And eBay unfortunately facilitates the
crooks, though I'm certain they'd prefer to root them out and get rid of
them. It's just that the whole eBay system allows charlatans to flourish
because
it is not based on merit. Con artists can get lots of positive feedback as
long as their victims remain uninformed, or are afraid to give negative
feedback because they know they will receive a negative in retaliation. Even
if
everyone within the range of this list recognizes the chicanery, there are
many
others out there ready to be snared.

Anyway----- I used to really get shook up about these things, but I'm
starting to get used to it---- which I suppose is the most cynical comment of
all!
And that's my cynicism for the day...............

Thanks, Loran. I appreciate the invitation.

Here's the latest, compliments of Bruce R. Young (with apologies for
this belated addition). Note that based on Bruce's serial number, if
we assume that Frow's information on the tone modulator date is
correct, we can now document approximately 3,200 A-250's produced
from November to December 9, 1914. Bruce's A-250 is the lowest
serial number to have the tone modulator, so far, and pushes the
production of A-250's so equipped up by over 900 units.

Edison A-250 Search for differences in details, and study to
determine approximate time of manufacture. Answers in same order as
on questionnaire. If the motor board has a different serial number
than the dataplate on the cabinet, results for specific motor and
motor board details are listed under the motor board serial number
(found under platter), while all other results are listed under the
dataplate number. Motor board serial numbers are listed without
their A1 suffix, and cabinet (dataplate) numbers are listed without
their SM prefix.

Please note that questions 14 through 19 have now been added to the
initial questionnaire. Owner name (question 13) is optional.

This compilation currently maintains the same question order as the
original questionnaire, with added questions at the bottom, but may
be updated in future to a better organized format.

Note that we now have three different printing form dates from which
we can narrow down the approximate production dates of the A-250:
11-20-12; 4-3-14; 8-20-14. Please let us know if you have one not
shown here. To compare date results, based on the dataplate patent
number and Form 631 printing form date, see items 10b and 11.

Please consider adding your data to this study.

Thank you,
Andy Baron
