I have a Victrola in my collection that generates
quite a bit of discussion whenever someone visits my
basement. It's a "L" door machine that I bought from
BRICE PARIS about ten years ago. Here's a few
observations: It's completely painted inside & out and
appears to be covered with folk art. Where you would
normally see the Victrola decal, you'll see a topless
woman! She's a little abstract and folksy. The
exposed hinges of the Victrola were removed and
replaced with hidden hinges. These hinges are the
same manufacture as my very early Columbia Elite and
are very old. The short legs and casters are gone and
in their place is a "skirt" type base. The painting
and some of the artwork has been touched up but most
appears to be very old. Here are some opinions:
It was used on a boat. That's why the feet and
casters were removed. It's a 1960's Hippie paint job.
It fell off the back of a delivery truck and that was
someones idea of a salvage.
When someone visits my home, I always look
forward to their opinion when they look at that
Victrola. If there was ever a machine that would
elicit thoughts like "abortion" or "made me want to
vomit", that would be the machine. You know what?
When face to face, people are polite. We should all
be the same with our postings.
When Brice sold me the machine, he made me
promise not to refinish it! Thanks Brice, I have
always delighted in owning the Victrola with the
topless woman! Jerry Blais (Come visit it when in Oregon)
