I think the essence of a board like this is to share our knowledge and help each other as in the end it keeps the flame and interest of collecting for everyone alive. so if someone finds something interesting and is unsure, why not help.
As a young collector about 10 years ago I saw an "interesting" phonograph at an antiques market, that I had no idea what it was. It also looked as if someone possibly had modified a cake tin - so basically I was unsure, so not wanting to waste around 1000 hard earned dollars, I phoned a more experienced collector who I knew for advice and described the machine to him. "Na, sounds like a piece of crap" was his advice. Apparently he dropped everything he was doing and raced a few hundred miles down to the show........
