[Phono-L] Help ID Columbia Reproducer part/weight

Hello, friends. Has anybody seen one of these before? It is in a Columbia Eagle 
reproducer, and it fits perfectly, but it's not affixed except for the stylus 
bar, and the normal retaining ring is absent. Appears to be a weight for louder 
reproduction? Is it an accessory, or?? Early Pat date. See links for pics.
