Arrgh!!! Sounds like the basis for a reality show!
That is a similar dealing to one I had with him years ago. One bad deal with a
nasty guy like that totally brands him forever with me.

Subject: [Phono-L] My experience with ANTIQUE EDISON - Seller's Name was/
 Frankenreproducer alert

Hello fellow phono enthusiasts. I have been reading the exchange on the ebay
seller known as ANTIQUE EDISON. His name is John Marinacci. I had the
misfortune of purchasing a Victor VI from him off of Ebay about 2 years ago.
For those of you who would like brave the following email exchange between Mr
Marinacci and me, I am sure you will find it most enlightening... INITIAL
EMAIL: Hi John:I received the Victor VI today. Thank you for the secure
packaging. It arrived safely. However, I am concerned about the overall
condition of the machine . If you remember, I asked you specifically if the
horn had been patched and you said no. Unfortunately, there are at least 5
areas on the horn that have been patched and are easily noticeable. Also, the
finish is splotchy and uneven.Secondly, the machine itself has several glaring
problems. You had indicated that all of the gold hardware had been replated. In
fact, everything but the elbow, crank and the corner posts are just polished
brass. The additional gold plating required will be very expensive. Secondly,
there is a 9" crack on the crank hole side of the case which has obviously been
there since before it was refinished. Also, the finish is very dark and muddy.
The backside of the machine actually has bubbled up veneer and will have to be
removed and reglued.Long story short, this machine is a far cry from the one
described in your auction as "show condition."I would appreciate it if you
would contact me regarding the machine as soon as possible. Thank you,Don Henry
RESPONSE:Hi DonSorry you are not pleased with it I bought it off the Internet
about a yr.ago and that is how it was described. even more in a plus
description. I know as I stated that you can always look for things I did as
well but I did think it was well Good enough to keep for resale laterI have
been in many auctions to see a number of these and as I stated to me it look
like a keeper. If you want you may return it. Sorry I wish I could wheel and
deal with you on it but I paid $100.00 less than you did. All I can say is that
the price that was paid in my opinion was fair it is by far not a piece of
junk.HERE IS THE REST OF THE SAGA… DH: I never said the machine was a piece of
junk. It is simply not the machine I thought I was buying based on your
description and the answers to that you provided to my specific and detailed
questions. So, yes, I would like to return it. Thank you. I will pay return
shipping. I assume you will refund the full price of $5350? Thank you.JM: Let
me say that If you read my Return policy there is a 15% restocking fee also
there is noway anyone will return $ 100.00 Shipping & handling:the description
of this was as honest as one could be.you look at it as it was not restored or
replated I look at it as it was.you are always allowed to disagree and I do
refund policy because of this. thank you DH: As much as I would love for you
make $750 on a misrepresented machine, I feel that the machine is in NO WAY
what you described. SHOW CONDITION would generally imply that the case did not
have a 9" CRACK in it and that the horn was not PUTTIED up with INFERIOR
PATCHES. I was trying to be nice but the truth is you TOTALLY MISREPRESENTED
THE CONDITION OF THE MACHINE to an extent that is tantamount to fraud. Also, you
managed to leave your original invoice inside the machine which indicated you
bought it for $4850... not the "$100 less " that you told me, which further
establishes your willingness to not tell the truth.I will make a case with EBAY
and pursue all outlets to make sure that this situation is remedied. I cannot
believe that you are willing to sit here and deny what you explicitly stated in
your description, which by the way was copied from the previous seller with a
few convenient omissions.I really hate the fact that you are trying to double
talk your way out of this. That upsets me even more than the fact that the
machine is not nearly what you made it out to be.JM: I thought you bought it
for $ 5,000.00 also there was no crack in the machine when I sent it to you.
there was no tantamount to fraud.at allin my description if you read it does
not state it was mint original and on a scale from 1-10 its an 11.it is however
super condition regardless of the few bumps .that shows it is original not
repro.you wanted a mint new condition Victor 6 that sells for $ 8500.00 for $
5000 ,I told you the best I could what you would get for your money.I described
it the way I saw it. people that buy my machines see that my description is
right on the money I think you got a great machine for the money that you
paid.DH: The crack is obviously an old one as it has been REFINISHED OVER, but
there is no use arguing the point with you. I never expected a MINT machine. I
expected the machine to be as you described... which it is NOT. I requested
more pictures... which you did not send... so I took YOUR WORD on the SPECIFIC
QUESTIONS THAT I ASKED YOU. You have apparently conveniently forgotten my
question"ARE THERE ANY PATCHES OR REPAIRS ON THE HORN?' YOUR ANSWER "NO." HOW
DO I INTERPRET THIS??? since there are multiple and very obvious repairs to the
horn. Most people would call that a bold face lie…Anyway, the damage has been
done and I see that you will not address my specific concerns, so we'll just
leave it at that and as I said, I will check my options with ebay and pursue
whatever means I can to correct this situation. If indeed you wanted to make
this right and had any integrity as a seller, you would simply take the machine
back and refund my money instead of trying to make money with a "restocking
fee". I would even eat the $100 shipping/handling. However, I assume you have
no intention of doing this. As for your opinion on getting a "great machine for
the money you paid" that is just what it is... your opinion. JM: Let me say
that you are just to concerned about all the wrong things with the machine .and
as I stated you can find wrong with a new car.you never stated one nice thing
about the machine.you were trying to get a $10,000 machine for $5000. it just
does not happen anymore. all you are concerned is reading things and interpret
it your way and not seeing the 15% fee, but you saw everything else. As I
stated in the description it is a great machine for what you paid. also in my
description I have as is sold no guarantee that is for people like you who are
looking for the mint machine for half the price. again I would be willing to
work something out but it will not be and should not be 100% your way. everyone
knows that a return on anything they do not get the shipping $ back.but you
even wanted that so it shows me who I am dealing withDH: You are either
purposely being obtuse, or you simply choose to ignore what I write in my
emails, as you have never addressed any of the specific problems I have
mentioned. Either way... I find your tactics repugnant and I do not wish to
discuss this further unless you intend to be a responsible seller. I have
bought and sold on ebay for many years and occasionally I run into someone like
you who tries to get away with something. It is a shame and all I can say is
I'm glad I don't treat my customers in this manner.JM: Don I feel the same way
about you. you are one of those people who want a mint never been touched
Victor for half the price and if you can find one little thing wrong you will
pass.you never stated anything that was nice about it not one thing .just all
the things wrong so you can send it back without reservation.and all the time
your hoping it that mint never touched on the shelf for 100 yrs machine.life
does not work like that.I have in my description sold as is no guarantee and if
you insist to return it I am that good soul that will accept it but then you
don't want to share any of the expenses. And want to just ignore what I state
in my description 15% as I stated I am a very fair person but will not be taken
advantage of its always a two way street.you don't seem to understand. The last
thing I want is for my people to not be pleased with there item.and will do
whatever it takes to make it right .but you want all the gravy and could
careless about the other person.DH: Unless you are accusing me of lying about
the defects in the machine... it boils down to the following: You told me one
thing, the facts told me another. This my friend is MISREPRESENTATION, plain
and simple, regardless of how "great a deal" you think I got. JM: I did not say
there weren't anyI stated that I did not see any. I am not like you that has it
under a microscope. I stated it was restored and to me it look like a very good
restoration that is why I bought it. and if you would be honest with yourself
that is a very nice Victor. No not Mint on the shelf for the past 100 yrs. that
you wanted hoping that I did not know what I am doing and trying to find that
for half the price. you should try to come to grips with yourself and say
honestly this machine is a very nice and honest description of it and a keeper
.and stop taking advantage of people.the things that you stated that were wrong
in your eyes is the reason it was priced for $5 if the things that you stated
that bothered you were not there you would pay $10,it is really hard to work
out something when dealing with someone like you who can not even be honest
with themselves.I did not state that this thing was mint never touched by human
hands except to play a few records . this is part of my description The item
description above is an honest evaluation of the condition of the item based on
limited testing. But because I am selling used equipment no matter how
conscientious I am there may be some things I miss. Therefore, unless otherwise
stated, this item is being sold in its present AS-IS condition. DH: Lol…ok JM:
Thank you. trust me you will really enjoy it. Its a great piece. just give it
time and stop trying to find that diamond in the ruff for $ 0 those days are
over you only get what you pay for.and that is with honest people.there is so
much going on that were lucky to even get that these days. you could be a good
person if you give it a chance.and stop looking for the bad and look for the
good. As I said you never stated one good think about the Victor not even how
well it was packed and thanking me for the savings I gave you. start looking at
the good things in life and in people you will live a much happier life. It
takes just as much energy to look at things in a negative way as it does in a
positive way. trust in the positive and your life will be filled with joy and
happinessDH: I am starting to think you need professional help. You need to
start reading emails more carefully and fully process what is being said to
you. It is easy to hide behind email and not answer the specific questions
asked of you.... which has been the case here. Try to be a little more
observant and honest with your next customer for your sake and for theirs.
Pretending not to see 9" cracks and glaring patchwork is not the way conduct
business.I wish you the best in the future. And as I said... I will pursue
whatever means I can thru ebay channels to fix the situation.JM: You should
read my description a little more carefully you need not go anywhere to fix
this I did state if you are not pleased with it you may return it for a refund
I can not be more fair than that. but we must go by my description full
description please read itDH: If you will refund my $5250 I will return the
machine and eat the shipping. This is fair. I'm not sure why you would expect
me to pay a "restocking fee." JM: As I stated read my description I did state
if you are not pleased with it you may return it for a refund I can not be more
fair than that.but we must go by my description full description please read it
15%the reason for this is it helps us with people sending items back it could
have sold here or in the auction.now we are going to have to starting this all
over .plus getting the fee back from E-Bay everything is time and money.I have
sent items back with a restocking fee a few times.DH: I will not reward your
misrepresentation with what amounts to a $750 gift. End of story. And PLEASE,
let this be the last communication on this sad situation. I do not wish to hear
any more from you on the subject. You were lucky that I trusted you initially.
That would have been the only way for you to get this kind of money out of this
machine.. And I repeat... please do not send any more emails unless you want to
refund the full price that I paid for this rather sorry machine. JM: I was
right all along just by your statement calling the machine a sorry machine.as I
stated you wanted to take advantage of me hoping that the machine was mint and
only paying $ 5,250 for it. that is very wrong and there was nothing that was
misrepresented.DH: I guess "please don't email me anymore" didn't sink in. AND
THAT MY FRIENDS IS MY EXPERIENCE WITH MR. JOHN MARINACCI…
