I've been considering 'sell or fix' for mine, for a long time. The
cabinet is nearly perfect - all I did was clean it with Murphy's Oil Soap
(the jelly form) and very fine steel wool. The back bracket, tone-arm, horn
clamp, and reproducer are there. (Your friend's pics don't show the crank
side, but mine is the slotted type) When I bought the thing, long ago, the
junk shop owner searched for the horn but couldn't find it - she even let me
look through her entire house! Main problem, besides needing a horn: the
shaft onto which the turntable mounts is slightly bent, enough to prevent
running the motor. How that happened, I know not. So it needs either a
replacement or the expert attention of a machine shop.
Should these have a black & brass, petal, or wooden horn, or does that
depend on date of maufacture?

Subject: [Phono-L] Monarch Special for sale
Hi Guys
A friend of mine is selling a beautiful oak Monarch Special. What's a fair
price these days?? I'd love to buy it but it's not in my realm at the
moment...
