For some years I've wanted to create a "History of Recorded Sound" (or more
exciting title or subtitle "From Tin Foil to the digital age") pop-up book.

Sophisticated graphics, key figures and machines detailed in gatefolds or
affixed booklets, sound chips, etc.

Very tough to sell publishers on an expensive to manufacture book like this
unless they perceive a huge audience, but it could be a great book.

Many years ago a pop-up book on science featured a crude but functional
hand-turned paper record played by a tipped-up fold of paper with permanently
affixed needle. Not exactly the quality of a Hit of the Week, and just with a
line or two of spoken words, but very effective for demonstrating how
articulated recording could be experienced with the simplest of devices.
Something like that should be repeated as just a small part of the recorded
sound story.
