OK. Since I knew you made up that bit of information I went and Googled  
"Toll painting".  It's actually spelled "Tole painting" and is a form of  folk 
art with pictures on the internet strongly resembleling the Gem  phono.
Who knows when the phono was painted??  It could very well have been  in 
the 1960s when it apparently was popular.
