As I recall from literature and Bob Baumbach's wonderful books, it was rough
shaped by machine and then hand carved. I should probably go back and check
for accuracy of what I've said, but that's is as I recall.

I was checking out the "gingerbread" on a Victor XVI cabinet, and was
wondering how they were able to produce it with so much "consistency". Did
the ornamentation  come from a carving tool or was it molded and applied
later?
