I wasn't aware that the crooks and con artists were coming to meet the sellers with bags of counterfeit dough to pay for items, so you should meet them at the bank, and force the thief to get his money checked before you accept it. Thanks for the tip. There is no way that ebay is not going to get their share, since you have to supply them with a valid credit card number. So either they will take their share out of you paypal account, and if there are no funds in it, they will get it from your credit card.

You have to put "contact me" in the shipping instructions when you want a local pickup. Don't mention cash in that box though. Most of what I'll be selling is too heavy to ship and maneuver (at least for me). I'm trying to sell 2 heavy Karastan rugs (ger55), and if this listing goes well, I'll start putting Edison records, vintage machines and horns on. They have a new listing policy: it's called FREE for the first 100 items, with an after-sale fee of 9% with the max of $100 (certain categories are excluded and priced higher, like homes, cars, etc.). The listing is more of a form-type, like check-the-boxes...very different for someone who has not sold there in years (me)!! As far as cash: My brother told me to go to your bank (obviously during banking hours) and accept the cash there, so that it can be checked for authenticity. The pen-checker is good, but the bank is safer, because you can deposit at the same time. Naturally this is after the person sees and commits to take your item. I think you'd have to let ebay pull their $100 out of your CC (or paypal ?) after the sale, since it's a cash transaction...you might want to check how they handle that. If they found out you sold and did not fork over their fee, you'd get banned or sued!? LOL Ger PS: Ebay had to help me set up this first ad...their whole system has changed soooo much. But the helper was very good. You can't put "cash" in the shipping instructions or the system will not accept the listing, although you could put it in the text description. Also, I just got the above info a few days ago. One can double check for accuracy. Lately bureaucratic monster companies seem to be "confused," or just too big, with different customer service people saying different, often contradictory things! -----Original Message----- From: phono-l-request@ oldcrank .org Sent: Tuesday, December 06, 2011 3:00 PM To: phono-l@ oldcrank .org Subject: Phono-L Digest, Vol 8, Issue 369 Send Phono-L mailing list submissions to phono-l@ oldcrank .org To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http :// oldcrank .org/mailman/ listinfo /phono-l or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to phono-l-request@ oldcrank .org You can reach the person managing the list at phono-l-owner@ oldcrank .org When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of Phono-L digest..." The item will be picked-up at my home rather than shipped. The buyer has offered to pay cash at the time of pick-up. I searched eBay and I am not sure of what their current policy is concerning cash transactions. Any advice in this matter is appreciated. Thanks. ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Mon, 5 Dec 2011 20:24:39 -0500 From: <[email protected]> To: Antique Phonograph List <phono-l@ oldcrank .org> Subject: Re: [Phono-L] eBay payment options Message-ID: <20111205202439.3MP7M.277794. imail @eastrmwml301> Content-Type: text/plain; charset =utf-8 eBay would rather you used PayPal , so they get a cut of the payment, but they can't forbid local pickup for cash and there would be a huge outcry if they tried. If you are concerned about a stranger coming to your house, set the exchange up in a public place such as a restaurant or your place of work. I can't imagine any other problem (and in fact I just met a buyer today, who came to my office building, and paid me $1,600 in cash for the two items he won). Happy selling!
