I'm not sure how many on the list were familiar with Frank Zymunt here in the Chicago area. He has been an acquaintance of mine for some years. He has been quite influencial in the coin op business for some 25 years. I purchased a few machines from him including a nice 1950's Coca Cola vending machine. Well, I found out he died recently. I was caught by surprise by this one. He had such a vast collection in his home. I estimated it at around $1 million in my mind. Apparently, an auction was held in PA and the final tally of receipts was roughly $942,000.00 I am not sure if that was everything...whether his family retained anything or what, but whoever, purchased machines at this auction obtained some very rare coin op machines and phongraphs, music machines, etc.. I've seen some pretty nice collections and heard about others, but it would be hard to believe that anyone could have challenged the scope, size, rarity, etc of what Frank Sr. had. He opened his home to me many times and was quite helpful even though he was clearly quiet/reserved about his collection. The security around his home was pretty intense!
It always amazes me when someone like this passes and leaves such a substantial estate. It almost seems like the collection should remain together and be put in some type of museum rather than broken apart. However, when does the average guy get the chance to pick up a nice Eclipse :0 Ron Chicago _______________________________________________ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org
