Some of you may know this, but this was a godsend upon trying: faced with a
chugging and scary spring on my regularly-used C-150, I let the spring wind
down, removed the turntable, removed the grease screw on the barrel, and put in
a hefty dose of Phil Wood Tenacious Oil, which I normally use on bicycle pedal
barrels. Peculiar stuff, but heavy without gumminess. It helped the barrel's
old graphite grease free up markedly without leakage, and over the last two
months, using a Jones Motrola for winding, I haven't had a chug in a carload,
and more power in the motor. Thought this might be of use. P. Carli
