Link Springs:  On some Blue Amberol records with high amplitude recording 
levels the link and stylus bar tend to rattle.  The spring was to provide a 
constant tension and stop the rattling.  Over the years the springs have lost 
their tension and have become less effective.  New springs a would really help 
to control the distortion caused by the rattling.  The idea is to limit the 
lost motion (slop) in the system created by the smaller diameter link wire in 
the larger holes on the crosshead and stylus bar.  The constant tension adds 
rigidity to the bar/diaphragm coupling.
