I think what is going on here is that in some of the messages the links are
spread over two lines.  Unless they are copied and pasted to make them one
line again, they will not work.   It's a common problem.   The links end
with .jpe   as I look at this message before I send it, the links are all on
one line.   When I looked at the message as it arrived in my inbox, the link
was broken and showed only

"http://oldcrank.org/pipermail/phono-l/attachments/20131220/8468ea65/a";

on one line and 

"ttachment.jpe"

on the line below it (without the quote marks, of course).
