Hi Bill, If you have both parts of the broken needle bar, a good jeweler ought to be able to HARD solder the two parts together. It would have more than enough strength. There are also some eyeglass frame repair places that can laser weld. That would be even better, I would imagine. Either way, you should be able to grind the joint smooth enough that it would not show after the needle bar was painted.
