Brilliant, Scottmac, I did have some crufty lurking libmysql.dll's. But I'm still getting the 5 second hang. Using the 5.2.5 php_mysql.dll and php_mysqli.dll's the hang happens with a dirt-simple hello-world. With 5.2.1 it happens if I mysql_connect(). Could it be having both mysql and mysqli enabled?
