Still a problem in 5.3.21.

This bug still exists.
Can be reproduced with ne code snippet of the initial posting in the following 
environments:

- Mac OSX 10.6.8, PHP 5.3.12
- Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), PHP 5.3.5-1ubuntu7.7

log_errors = On
No value for error_log. It is commented out.
