using php 5.4.8, this described problem seems to work with basic authentication
but not with DIGEST.

I have the same problem in PHP 5.3.3.
It is not possible to fetch a HTTP basic/digest authentication protected WSDL.

Still having this problem as of PHP 5.3.2-dev on my Linux boxes. PHP 5.3.1 on
my Windows box did not have this problem.
