It seems specific to 5.3.10 and does not require xdebug to trigger: Passing an empty $data string to openssl_encrypt will cause a segmentation fault. On 5.3.10-dotdeb it segfaults for me without xdebug too. With the 5.3.15-dev there are no issues with or without xdebug for me.
