The ';' should not be required at the end of an IF clause, as in
if ($a > $b) {echo "a is greater than b";}
else {echo "a is NOT greater than b";}
if ($a > $b) {echo "a is greater than b"}
else {echo "a is NOT greater than b"}
should be correct.
