Humble apologies if this turns out to be a configuration error, but I
can't find any reference using the bug search page or a general search
with Google.
Script to reproduce problem:
<?php mail('[EMAIL PROTECTED]', 'Times out', 'But does get sent!');

Environment:
php 4.3.1 Win32 binaries running as apache module
SMTP smtp.ellisandgrant.com
SERVER_SIGNATURE <ADDRESS>Apache/1.3.27 Server at localhost Port

SERVER_SOFTWARE Apache/1.3.27 (Win32) PHP/4.3.1
Notes:
1. The SMTP box is a linux box on my LAN. Very unbusy with a fast cable
modem connection to the outside world, ie connecting and DNS cannot
possibly be taking more than 1 or 2 seconds.
2. All other php functions and behaviors seem fine.
3. Watching the clock and looking at the timestamp on the email, it
seems as though it is being sent just AFTER the script times out.
4. mail() worked fine when I ran php as cgi.
