Oops, I forgot to try this one...

The bug still persists.
$ php script2.php < Zend/zend.c
is ok, but it doesn't work with piped stream. Please try the
following:
$ cat script2.php | php script2.php

This bug has been fixed in CVS.
In case this was a PHP problem, snapshots of the sources are packaged
every three hours; this change will be in the next snapshot. You can
grab the snapshot at http://snaps.php.net/.

Correcting a typo.
wrong: $ php script3.php
right: $ cat Zend/zend.c | php script3.php

produces bogus output, whilst
$ php script1.php
and

work correctly.
