We are moving things out of the core distro, not back in.  And you
don't need it in the core to build it in statically.  Just stick your
sqlite directory in your ext/ directory under your php sources and run
./buildconf from the top directory.  That will add sqlite support to
your top-level configure script.

Having said that, a future release will be bundling key pecl extensions
such as sqlite, so this will eventually happen.

It would be really cool if SQLite were added to the main PHP
distribution, instead of being a PEAR module.  Then it could be built
statically into PHP.
