Just to repeat, we are only supporting build in gd and propably older versions of gd. We try to keep up to date with fixes by newer gd versions but have a lot of fixes and extensions which makes it impossible to support the new gd versions. So you have to wait until next year and hope no more patents are pending or buy a gif license and hire a programmer who can include gif writing in the bundled ext. I'm using Apache 1.3.28 + PHP-4.3.3 with external GD 2.0.15 from http://www.rime.com.au/gd/ (because I need the GIF support), and this causes the Segmentation faults reported below.
