New Comment:
Obviously that path you have mysql in is missing from your
LD_LIBRARY_PATH setting. Not PHP bug, ask support questions elsewhere.

Description:
------------
When configuring PHP with MySQL with the following config it fails:
./configure --prefix=/project/compiled/PHP \
--exec-prefix=/project/compiled/PHP \
--with-mysql=/project/compiled/MySQL \
--with-zlib=/usr/local
The error message that config displays is:
checking for mysql_close in -lmysqlclient... no
checking for mysql_error in -lmysqlclient... no
configure: error: mysql configure failed. Please check config.log for
more information.
>From config.log:
ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to conftest
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
configure: failed program was:
#line 56453 "configure"
#include "confdefs.h"
/* Override any gcc2 internal prototype to avoid an error. */
/* We use char because int might match the return type of a gcc2
builtin and then its argument prototype would still apply. */
char mysql_error();
int main() {
mysql_error()
; return 0; }
However, if I symlink /project/compiled/MySQL to /usr/local/mysql,
everything works perfectly.
I don't want that symlink in there. Is there a way to do so?
Please let me know.
Reproduce code:
---------------
./configure --prefix=/project/compiled/PHP \
--exec-prefix=/project/compiled/PHP \
--with-mysql=/project/compiled/MySQL \
--with-zlib=/usr/local
Expected result:
----------------
Configure to run without errors
Actual result:
--------------
checking for mysql_close in -lmysqlclient... no
checking for mysql_error in -lmysqlclient... no
configure: error: mysql configure failed. Please check config.log for
more information.
