Correction: 5.1.0 works fine, crashes came due to me trying out stuff with the 5.0.5 version. Namely, I copied over 5.0.5 DLL files into the Apache directory. After I deleted all php DLL files from all places, 5.1.0 works fine. 5.0.5 still does not like the GD2 DLL, though. Installing 5.0.5 over 5.0.4 breaks the GD functionality, because it cannot find the procedure entry into the DLL. Looks like the supplied php_gd2.dll file is too old/new/different than supposed to. The new 5.1.0 RC has the correct DLL coming with it, however I can't use it because the RC crashes in php5ts.dll every few minutes. Fix: Installing either 5.0.4 or 5.1.0 fixes the problem.
