Currently PDO quotes null value as a string '' . I suggest to change this
behaviour and quote null as sql NULL.
Reproduce code:

$pdo = new PDO('pgsql:...', 'root', '');
var_dump ($pdo->quote (null));
Expected result:
----------------
null
Actual result:
--------------
string ('')
--
