same issue here, using freebsd 5.3...just checked ive got
display_errors = On and error_reporting = E_STRICT atm...php-5.0.4
here.

PHP 5.0.4 say : PHP Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING,
expecting ',' or ';' in selects.php on line 6
PHP 5.1.1 say : Errors parsing selects.php
