Can you please paste the exact error you get. It can not be same since
most of the stuff is disabled!

Just to be absolutely clear, try this (and exactly this!):
# rm config.cache ; ./configure --disable-all --disable-cgi --with-gd

And you use EXACTLY same configure line and fresh 5.2.3 sources? (as
with 5.2.2)

i tried all these options as you suggested, no results
please note that 5.2.2 builds successfully with GD support (and
jpeg/png
image manipulation is checked and also works)
