It's funny I was just thinking the other day how much money I have made
off of open source projects like PHP, MySQL, Apache, etc., and it's
impressive. Not that I am bragging about how much money I make, because
really it's not that much. But considering the fact that I have been able
to make a pretty good chunk of change using open source software, tells me
open source is a viable option for people to make a living with, or at
least some extra cash.

I encourage everone to give something back to the community as often as
you can. I have one open source project, rampart.sourceforge.net, that has
been well recieved and is extremely rewarding to work on. I have a couple
more in the works. So if you have a library or class that others may
benefit, throw it out there on Sourceforge. I can't tell you how rewarding
it is to get feedback and see the number of downloads go up every week.

Viva la open source!
