[PHP-DB] Upgrading SQLite exec in PHP 5

Greetings all. 

I am running PHP 5 on FreeBSD and would like to replace the embeded SQLite 
(2.8...) by an 
upgraded version (3.12). 

I have no clue of how this can be done. 
On windows one apparently only need to replace the dll (or am I wrong ?). 
How can that be done on FreeBSD ?
