You have to change the password hash to the old 3.23.x format if you
don't want or can't use mysqli. Open a mysql shell and type something
like:
Advertising
use mysql;
UPDATE user SET password = OLD_PASSWORD('yourpass') WHERE user =
'youruser' AND host = 'localhost';
