usualy one would use "file index.html" to find out what kind of file it is. In case of
html, it should return:
/home/willi/src/ap/apache_1.3.17/htdocs/index.html.de: HTML document text
in case of a ZEND encoded file it should say something like
/home/willi/src/ap/apache_1.3.17/htdocs/index.html.de: ZEND encoded php
or so.
file should be part of the GNU-Fileutils.
