DB3 is now a standard RPM on RedHat 6.x and above when you upgrade to rpm-4.0.x. RedHat 6.2 originally came with rpm-3. rpm-4's database is now in db3 format adn as rpm is a required binary everything related to it (except the rpm database itself) is installed on the root (/) partition. /usr could potentially be on a different partition.
