Well, you guess wrong. Try to avoid jumping to conclusions which you have no 
basis for, except that it makes things someone else's fault.

Mozilla (and Netscape 4, too) have inconsistencies in their gzip support. 
Netscape 4, at least, couldn't print encoded pages - the data sent to the 
printer isn't decompressed - and it looks like both of them don't decompress 
data when it is downloaded. Of course, you can ungzip it yourself, and you 
could also argue that the browser doesn't know it isn't just a gzip file - 
except that the Content-Type is correct; gzip is just in the Content-Encoding.

So Mozilla is broken. You should probably file a bug report.
