I will agree that it is a workaround, but heck, it
works...
I tried libtool 1.4 from Fink, and it messed up my
build systems across the board, had to reinstall
apple's dev tools...

Messing with the dev-tools on OS X shouldn't be a
requirement for building PHP... Truthfully, most
Mac people can't tell their A$$ from a hole in
the ground...
