There's been a bit of traffic on the apache dev list about this as well, most of it indicating the problem lies on the PHP side of things... This is something I've been tracking for a while, waiting for the Apache beta (which is pretty close to their final) before really worrying about the php support. Now that the beta is here would be great to see php getting solid on Apache.
