Yes, back when SAP opensourced SAP DB there was a lot of speculation was to why they did it. Actuallywe installed it on our test server, but never actually tested it.
It seems very feature complete and well documented. Using ODBC sucks (especially with the problems it creates with other RDBMSs), so a native driver would be nice. Anyways I remember that they announced that they would continue development and would improve the SAP DB OS site. I haven't really checked if they followed through with their promise.
