Actually, using the latest autoconf 2.52 did the trick.  You can fake the
libtool check.

For Redhat users, grab:

ftp://speakeasy.rpmfind.net/linux/rawhide/1.0/SRPMS/SRPMS/autoconf-2.52-7.src.rpm

And build it.
