Experimental means experimental, and that it may very well crash on you on startup. Otherwise it would be labeled beta :) The fact PHP 4.2 got any support for Apache 2.0 at all was already bending the release cycle rules, delaying it further made little sense considering it would have still been labeled experimental, and considering the fact 4.2 already took a very long time to be released.
