I dont't have use of line numbering in current apps. But, just wait a minute.

This, at once is a very interesting use of line numbering, if the proposed 
patch allows parametrization. Then, for a demo or training, line numbering of 
snippets is a dream, as it allows one to comment code by line number instead 
of some other hawkward methods. On the other hand, say linenumber_off or 
whatever switch one can imagine when the snippet is to be reused canb be an 
easy best of both worlds situation.

For backwards compatibility, this would be nice. And just turn it on when 
needed ;-)
