Hi Dan, ext/rpc is the the ZE2 version of ext/com and ext/java, which will (most likely) be removed from the repository once ZE2 is officially released.
ext/rpc is designed to make it easier to implement those kinds of extensions and is a kind of extensible extension (as is ext/session). --Wez.
