The non-threadsafe version is useful for Windows CGI and debugging. On the other hand, it's quite a drag to maintain. Unless someone steps up and takes responsibility to keep it in sync, or we make a new rule that people have to remember to update both projects, then I think nuking it is OK.
What do others think? (I'm interested in hearing from Windows users)
