Dear Gurus:
I am trying to use javascript with my php code to output data onChange.
I have read the archives and know that because javascript is client side
and php is server side I cannot interact natively on the page except to
pass the variables through an http request. Here is what I have done
based on what I have read in the archives etc.:

javascript because I thought I could then use an if statement:

this is the html code for the document.forms <input type="hidden"

so what is supposed to happen here is the user selects a product by its

Egads, I figured it out this morning. It was the 33-1/3rd error I'd
fixed and about the 6.28*10^23rd new thing I had used/learned that
morning between PHP and MySQL and HTML forms.
I was expecting it to print it directly to the screen just by invoking
it, LOL! OH boy, I was tired. When I caught the error as a return value
and THEN printed that, all became well.

Or one that translates DB schemas into classes/objects? THIS is where
having private variables in classes would be MUCHO handy. Absolutely

I think it might help if you elaborated a little more on what you mean by
"parse out all of my PHP scripts to run a particular CGI script".
Apache has to be set up so know how to handle php (mime types), but it
almost sounds like you're trying to execute a CGI in place of a php file?
Also, if this IS a question related to apache what operating system? Makes a
big diff.

Ah, sorry.
Here's the deal. Our company runs Unix on Sun Solaris (sorry, don't know
the numbers of the top of my head) servers. We have Apache set up to go
through every HTML file which is served, and look for instances of a
particular command. For example, in our HTML files, we might have commands
such as "<BOB-include>" or something. When an HTML file is served, Apache
calls a Perl module called parser.cgi which goes through the file and
executes the BOB commands; in this case, the BOB-include command might mean
to include a certain file, sort of like the PHP include command.
While this system is good for specific database needs, it doesn't allow a
large degree of flexibility, which is why we're beginning to explore using
PHP to create complex scripts. What I would like to do is be able to
include the BOB commands in the output of a PHP script -- say, in a print()
command -- and have those BOB commands executed.
I hope this makes sense. I'm trying to be as clear as possible without
giving away any sensitive company information.

If you have "$mars,$venus,$jupiter" and you want PHP to substitute for the
variables, maybe you could use http://php.net/eval
However, I suspect you are doing something way more complicated than you
need to in the first place, which has gotten you in this predicament.

Normally, you could exec("echo $password\n$password\n | htpasswd .htpasswd

But, not only does htpasswd require input, it requires that you be on a TTY
(ie, a real login) not just PHP.
This is just plain not going to work unless you munge the file by hand.

Not sure Perl is going to be any better at this.
Sounds to me like you should *not* be using .htaccess if you need this much
flexibility.
Look into mod_auth_mysql or using PHP to send the authentication headers.

Form values should be checked on both client and server, I think. Anyway,
for jvs_name, put any string you want, like 'register', 'products', 'choice' and
so on. You should see Validation function named like 'register_Validator' as
output.
I believe there is no sample code comes with PHPLib last time I get the
distribution many months ago. I've played with oohform a little. It works but
there are bugs in the code (I think it was 7.2b). The classes are not optimized
for better performance, IMHO. I suggest to read source and modify code as needed
if you want to use them a lot. You might want to try newer form class in
PHPLib's CVS which seems to have much better design and code than older one.
Or you might try other form classes available that can be found elsewhere.

Ok,
I am running Win2000/Pro with PHP 4.0.? and IIS 5 for some local
development. I have tried turning on and off magic quotes.
When uploading a file via a form I can access $userfile and echo back to
the page the full path. However, $userfile_name, $userfile_type, and
$userfile_size are broke. They echo back nothing at all.
Any ideas ?

Read RFC2396 for URI format.
You are escaping query string as HTML where do you don't have to.
When you deal with query string, you should escape as URL.

Hi,
I just have a couple of questions that I hope some people will know the answers to.
1. I am hoping to read the entire range of values from a field in my MySQL table into
a combo box on my form, but I am not sure how. On top of that, I want the user to
select one value from this list, press next, and the combo box reappears with the full
list minus the chosen value. The user then chooses another, presses next, and the
combo box then appears again, minus the two chosen values. This loop continues until
flagged.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this?
2. I have created a session variable $session. This is an array. I have a dynamic
variable, ${"myvalue$counter"}, which has particular values assigned. The number of
instances varies depending on the data in the database, so it is difficult to go
through and assign each value to the session variable manually, eg
$session["myvalue1"], $session["myvalue2"], etc. Is there any way I can incorporate
dynamic variable names into the array structure like above. I have searched around,
but I am not really sure what this would come under.
3. This is similar to above, but it refers to functions. Is it possible to have
dynamic function names that actually change from where you call it?
eg. $value=1;
(call function from within another file)
function name$value (...)
$value=2;
(call same function from within the same file as before)
function name$value (...)
Is this possible with php?

is 2.2% for cc payments.

except you can't really integrate it into your web site. who knows
how long paypal will be around. it shoes up as paypal on people's
credit card statements, that's not very proffesional. you can't do
recurrent billing. you are forcing your customer to give their info
to a third party.
there's no time delay between the authorization of a card and the
capture of the funds which means you need to ship the product right
away, which sometimes, is impossible.
paypal might be good for ebay. it's not good for e-commerce sites.
I don't think so anyway.

Why does this mean you have to ship the product right away. Don't you
have at least 30 days, by law, to ship a product after you have
charged for it.

Maybe paypal is not good for some sites, but I wouldn't say it is not
good for all e-commerce sites. My web developer partner has been
using paypal for a year and he has had not trouble. His site is at:

I'll email paypal and ask them if they plan to move to the level of
professional service offered by other companies.

What is your environment? (OS, glibc version, Web Server, PHP version, compiler
version, How do you use PHP? Shared module/CGI, Character Set, etc)

Hi,
is it a fact that: If I have multiple select with e.g. "pers[]" as
name, I cannot check for an isset($pers) if the user left the field
blank?
I know it all works with textfields ... But in this case isset()
seems not work. There is also no entry in HTTP_POST_VARS for that.
Or might this be a browserspecific problem? (MSIE 5 on Mac)

if you get this error it probably means you don't have permissions set
up correctly.
Check the owner of your apache process and set owner/permission for
your php files accordingly.

Okay, what have you written in your script?! You never
wrote it! try include ('./domain.php') instead of
include ('domain.php') maybe it helps you! I tested
that on my FreeBSD 4.2+apache/php but it seems that
include ('domain.php') is also OK. Just give it a try or
add the directory which domain.php belongs to, to your
php include path.

from a database field?
I can create combo boxes fine containing values that I enter, but I want it to read
the values from the database into the drop down box for the user to select.

Yes I do! Take a look at the code snippet below:
echo "<select name=something>";
$level2 = $db->execute("select typename from types");
do {
$value=$level2->fields[0];
echo "<option value=$value>$value</option>";
$level2->nextRow();
} while (!$level2->EOF);
$level2->close();
echo "</select>";
Just change the query in the 2nd line of the code to the
desired query. You'll see the result ;-)
