foreach ( $files as $filename )
        if ( substr($filename, -4) == '.jpg' )
                array_push($jpegs, $filename);

Keep in mind, though, that not all JPEG files end with jpg. There is also jpe 
and jpeg, and you have to consider case sensitivity.
