Don't have the foggiest idea how to help, but I can ask questions ....

1. What code are you using?

2. Have you tried all of the system calls?

and, out of curiosity,

3. Why?

Samba strikes me as the sort of thing you would want to manage with a SSH 
login if you have to do it remotely.
