To be honest, I'm starting to wonder if we haven't stumbled on a bug. I have had similar problems (in an entirely different context) and improper cloning may be the cause of both of our problems. But without seeing the rest of your code it is very difficult to say if that is the case.
Can you provide a link to the source (rather than posting it all here)?
